Several months ago, an arsonist set fire to the BellevueIslamic Center. In response, severalchurches, agencies, and leaders in Bellevue reached out to express theirsympathy and offered help. BelPres andour leadership were among those. Sincethen, a few pastors and a similar number of Eastside Muslim leaders have beenmeeting regularly for religious conversation and relationship building. Recently, a fellow pastor asked our Muslimfriends about the notion of forgiveness in Islam. Do Muslims believe God forgives? How does one know that they are forgivenenough to receive eternal life? And must a Muslim forgive someone who sinsagainst them? Stereotypical pastorconversation, right?
In Islam, God is transcendent, meaning that God is free todo as God wills and is not bound in any way by physical laws like time andspace. Christians believe the samething. So God can be Creator withoutbeing created, and God can continually work in and outside of specificsituations and events to accomplish God’s ultimate purposes.
Lynne Ellis-Gray, Missions Pastor at Overlake Christian Church and a Perspectives instructor, will share how coming to a deeper faith through Perspectives impacted her actions when she was directly confronting the refugee crisis in Europe. She will inspire you to know how the Perspectives course will help you discern what role you play in God’s story.
If you feel God calling you to do more, join this 15week Perspective course starting Tuesdays, September 5th at BelPres. Receive aspecial discount code toward the cost of course at the Previewmeeting!
