I wanted to give you all a quick update on the negotiations with USTA regarding the Vancouver Tennis Center (VTC). The good news is that all parties are engaged and moving forward with due diligence to ensure the management agreement will result in the best tennis facility for Vancouver. We are again focused on providing a long term solution that will assure the tennis center will be used by all ages and abilities of players well into the future.
At the moment, both the City and USTA are focusing on the following issues, and due to the research and details involved, negotiations have slowed as these items are being investigated:
- Confirmation, cost verification and research on the wide variety of capital repairs proposed by USTA in relationship to the VTC.
- Further work by the City to understand roofing issues and to confirm repair options and associated costs with those repairs.
- How the procurement and bidding of these capital repairs will proceed and what methods for procuring this work will result in the best and most efficient outcome for all parties.
Additionally, the City is in discussions with the Vancouver School District on the VTC lease agreement and how the lease length and terms would relate to new management.
As more solid information is available I will pass it along. The process has slowed down a bit, due to these investigations, so the transition looks to be delayed approximately 60 days. Once we know a bit more about the timing, I will share it. We are committed to engagement between VTC members and current staff with the USTA as we get further into this process.
Have a great week and enjoy this wonderful weather,
