Since my last communication two weeks ago, the City of Vancouver has started negotiations with the highest rated vendor, United States Tennis Association Pacific Northwest (USTA-PNW). Their proposal reflected a deep understanding of the recreational and professional tennis industry and a commitment to serve the overall community with a wide variety of classes, leagues and activities for juniors, adults and families. In addition, the USTA-PNW proposal included investing $1.4 million in the facility and its operations. We are off to a promising start with contract negotiations.
If negotiations continue to progress, we envision submitting a contract to the City Council in early August for their consideration. There are a number of important points to be addressed before we have a final contract that works for both parties, but I am optimistic at this time.
I want to stress that it is our goal to keep the Vancouver Tennis Center a public facility that serves the Vancouver community and builds on a great history of providing tennis programs for all ages and levels of ability.
I'll keep you posted as the process continues and we get dates set for City Council.
