PLUS: Mike Birbiglia's "Next Wave" picks this Saturday
In this time of division, let us agree on this: It is too damn hot in August and everyone should go indoors to watch comedy. And what the heck, fall ain't a bad time for comedy shows, either. In this newsletter we are officially announcing four new acts for November and December, including the return of Ron Funches.
Wrestling and Storytelling Fans: We are one week away from our big show with Jim Ross, the iconic voice of pro wrestling. "Good 'Ol JR" has seen it all. He has worked alongside wrestling legends, been a part of some of wrestling's most famous events, and entertained millions of people worldwide with his unforgettable commentary. On August 10 (Thursday), he shares stories from his incredible career, then goes to a Q-and-A session where he'll answer anything the audience throws at him. It's as funny as it is fascinating. Get tickets while you can ...
New shows for the fall: The always entertaining Ron Funches will be returning in December, and Judah Friedlander returns to his hometown for the holidays, when he headlines the week leading to Christmas. We're bringing Finesse Mitchell back to close out the calendar year. And we beefed up our lounge showroom's schedule by bringing up-and-comer Jak Knight back to headline in early November.
Time Machine Roasters: On August 23 we've got the next edition of "Time Machine Roast" - comedians get in character as famous historical figures, then insult the hell out of each other. It's great. We just got the lineup: Thurgood Marshall (Cerrome Russell), Chef Boyardee (Ahmed Vallejos), Joan of Arc (Denise Taylor), Amelia Earhart (Landon Letzkus), Osama bin laden (Naomi Karavani), Steve Irwin (Dylan Meyer) and Alexander the Great (Benjy Himmelfarb). Tickets are $10 and you can get them right here.
New Year's Eve on sale: If you're totally over 2017, you can start gearing up for the 2018 welcome party. Finesse Mitchell will be headlining the festivities at the Improv this year. And remember, going to a NYE show at the Improv means you also get a pass for free admission to a future Improv show.
Tony Rock: August 3-6
PLEASE NOTE: Saturday shows are sold out. Less than 50 seats left for each Friday show.
Tony has been headlining sold-out shows at the DC Improv for years, and this versatile entertainer has also had his share of success in front of the camera. (He was in DC in late 2016 filming the upcoming movie "Couples' Night.") As one of the most-sought hosts in the business, he’s been running the show on the revamped “Apollo Live ” and the new “The Game of Dating.” He’s an amazing talent from one of comedy’s most celebrated families.

Jacqueline Novak / Chris Laker: August 5
Mike Birbiglia was just named the stand-up comedian of the year at the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal. This weekend, we have two comedians personally endorsed by Mike headlining our lounge as part of the "Next Wave" series.
Jacqueline Novak and Chris Laker are the very definition of “multi talented” – their comedy projects have included memoirs, podcasts, satellite radio programs, and more. Plus, they’re great and quirky stand-up comedians who recently served as the opening acts for Mike's 2017 comedy club tour.

THREE WEEKS AWAY
Michael Yo: August 25-26
You missed out on Jo Koy this August -- all seven shows are sold out. But you can still get tickets for one of Jo's favorite comedians. As part of our Next Wave series, we're bringing in Michael Yo on Jo's recommendation to headline the main showroom.
Michael knows all about entertainment, as one of your favorite correspondents on “Extra,” “E! News,” “The Insider” and "Chelsea Lately" (where he regularly worked with Jo). But when he’s not interviewing the stars, he IS a star on the comedy stage.

Jak Knight: November 3-4
Jak is back ... after headlining our lounge in March, he's coming back to take over our 60-seat showroom once again. The Seattle native has been getting notice for both his writing (on "Lucas Brothers Moving Company" and more) and his stand-up, appearing in the Oddball Comedy festival and opening for some big-time stars. He's got a stand-up special and an animated Netflix show in the works ... so catch him now, on his way up.

Ron Funches: December 7-9
Ron is one of the most distinctive voices in comedy, in terms of both his material and his actual voice. His giggly, laid-back stand-up comedy made him the toast of Portland, Ore. But in the last few years he has busted out on the national stage, with roles in sitcoms (“Undateable” and “Powerless”), movies (“Trolls”) and lots more. This is his third time headlining the Improv … check out a true original.

Judah Friedlander: December 21-23
Take time this holiday season to give yourself a gift: A night laughing with the WORLD CHAMPION. Judah (a Montgomery County native!) has been seen on “30 Rock,” in “Wet Hot American Summer,” and in a bunch of other stuff. He was a strong contender for president in 2016, and now he returns to DC in 2017 to make your December championship-caliber.

Finesse Mitchell: December 28-31
Finesse spun early success in the stand-up game into a four-year run on “Saturday Night Live.” His smooth and hilarious style has kept him busy on the small screen (Roadies, A.N.T. Farm, all the big talk shows). He pops up regularly on comedy concert tours. And you can still see him up close in the comedy clubs. Come close out your 2017 with Finesse at the best comedy spot in DC.
