Nominations for this year's Mark and Evette Moran Nib Literary Award have been entered from across the country, with every state represented. We have received an exciting group of books, by a dynamic set of authors who truly encompass the entire spectrum of writing experience.
Nib News will profile this year's judges next month when we announce the recipients of this year's Alex Buzo Shortlist prize and the contenders for this year's major award and $20,000 prize. For updates, keep an eye on the Nib News and the Nib webpage.
Congratulations to 2013 Nib Award Alex Buzo Shortlist Prize Winner Hannah Kent who has had the film rights to her second novel, The Good People optioned by Australian production company Aquarius Films. Aquarius’ recent credits include the films Lion and Berlin Syndrome, the latter based 2016 Nib People’s Choice Winner, Melanie Joosten’s debut novel of the same name. With such continued success it is no wonder that Hannah was also last month named as one of Melbourne’s most influential women under 40 by The Weekly Review.

Literary lovers will certainly be zig-zagging their way across the country in the next few weeks, with literary festivals, conferences and gatherings continuing almost weekly into Spring. From St Kilda to Kununurra, there are literary celebrations happening everywhere with a growing number of boutique events popping up alongside their big city counterparts. The reach of these events is set to increase, with several festivals recently being announced as sharing in $1.3 million of funding grants from the Copyright Agency's Cultural Fund.
